Join us for “Islam’s Impact on African Americans in the 20th Century” on Saturday, February 26, 2022 after Maghrib (5:40pm) at The Mecca Center with Imam Darnell Karim, Muslim Chaplain at Rush University Medical Center, and Professor Misbahu Rufai, Professor of African American History at Malcolm X College.

This event will cover the transformational impact Islam had on African Americans in the 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s along with the history of the formation, development, and contribution of African American Muslims in America.

Imam Darnell was assistant and childhood friend to Imam WD Mohammed. He was instructor of Islamic Studies and Arabic language at the Clara Muhammad School from 1976 to 1987 and has been the Muslim Chaplain at Rush University Medical Center for 24 years. As a young man, he used to recite Quran before many of Malcom X’s speeches. Professor Misbahu Rufai has been a professor of African American History at Malcolm X College for 25 years.
