Light Words

Wednesday nights

We will focus on character development, virtue, and brotherhood by looking at stories from the seerah, sahaba, past prophets, and righteous servants of the past from a thematic perspective, and also by spending time playing sports together in the Gym.

Friday nights

Sports then discussion

Setting intent and purpose: We will begin with a tafsir walkthrough of surah Kahf focusing on the themes and lessons of certainty in faith, trusting in God, mentorship and continual learning (story of Musa AS and Al-Khidr), and empowerment and leadership (the story of Dhul Qarnayn).

Purifying our thoughts and worldview: We will focus heavily on questions of faith in light of modern issues such as scientism, materialism, political ideologies and also personal struggles and trials. Lessons and discussion will be based on the book “The Words” by Said Nursi.

Purifying and beautifying our hearts: Here the purpose will be to develop a deeper levels of clarity and conviction. We will focus on what goodness and morality looks like on a practical level. Discussions will be structured around Shaykh Hamza Yusuf’s “Purification of the Heart” and the Seerah.
