About the book:
My Name Is Red is a beautifully layered historical novel set in 16th-century Istanbul during the height of the Ottoman Empire. Blending art, faith, mystery, and philosophy, the story follows a community of master miniaturists—artists who illuminate manuscripts—at a moment when their tradition is being challenged by new artistic influences from Europe.
Through multiple unique narrators, the novel explores themes of identity, creativity, devotion, and the tension between preserving tradition and embracing change. At its heart, it is also a literary mystery: something unsettling has happened within the artistic circle, prompting deeper questions about loyalty, truth, and the purpose of art in a society grounded in spirituality.
