1-  YOUTH COORDINATOR (Full Time)

The responsibility of the Youth Coordinator is to provide  development,  coordination  and  oversight  of  youth  services,  and to build  a  positive  youth program. He  or  she  must  integrate  recreational  and  artistic  activities  with  educational  and  spiritual components  and  provide  leadership  to  youth,  including  but  not  limited  to  tutoring  and  mentorship programs, community service, education and cultural programs.

 

GOALS OF THIS POSITION

  • To instill the American Muslim Identity in the youth by educating the  youth  about  the  basics  of  Islamic  faith  and  practice within the American cultural context.
  • Increase self-confidence and self-esteem in youth by developing youth leadership, facilitating positive peer-group relationships, and promoting bonds of friendship
  • Expand the youth group activities to allow youth to develop a commitment to community service and to join into different volunteer opportunities.
  • To increase attendance at Mecca Center Youth Program activities and market youth programming to the community

 

Responsibilities / Tasks

  • Be the catalyst behind all youth programs, initiatives and activities for the Mecca Center, relying on the logistical and advisory support of the Youth Committee members.
  • Establish or maintain regular youth programming at Mecca Center, including but not limited to weekly lectures, quarterly seminar series for older youth, qiyams and recreational activities.
  • Take the lead within the Youth Committee in establishing and executing on youth programs and activities that align with the Center’s long-term strategy. This includes but is not limited to a mentorship program and youth seminars with guest speakers.
  • Develop content and serve as editor of “The Youth Corner” of both the monthly newsletter and the Web Site
  • Coordinate annual youth events including, but not limited to: deen intensive course, summer camp, community service initiatives, leadership workshops/forums, youth retreats, hiking trips, sporting competitions, ski trips, etc.
  • Perform Friday khutba at the Mecca Center upon coordination with the Religious Affairs Committee
  • Additional responsibilities as requested by the Youth Committee or Board of Directors.

 

Job Requirements

  • Must be fluent in the English language, oral and written.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in the US, along with a degree or major coursework in the Islamic Sciences.
  • Experience in successfully developing and implementing programs and wide initiatives.
  • Must have extensive experience working with youth, managing volunteers, working in a team environment and networking.
  • Experience with public speaking and giving presentations.
  • Familiarity with issues faced by youth raised in North America is required.
  • As a full-time employee, the employee is required to spend certain fixed hours at the center during the weekdays/weekend.
  • Must have an approachable & youth friendly personality and must also have the capability to receive and act upon constructive feedback and suggestions

 

2- Facility Manager Position (Full Time):

The Facility Manager is responsible for maintaining the appearance of the building and its supplies and serving as a liaison to building management and other vendors. Other duties including, participation in building safety and security but not limited to, performing general janitorial tasks, repair for all buildings.

 Qualifications:

  • Experience in buildings management (2­-3 yrs)
  • 3-­5 years general repair work and/or experience in corporate facility department
  • Must be able to use tools as needed for electrical, plumbing & installation (including electrical meters, blue prints, schematics, etc.)
  • Must be self­motivated and work well with minimal supervision Direct Supervisor: The facility manager reports directly to the Executive Director.

 Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Work directly with the Executive Director to develop a manual of the facility security and safety system, facility maintenance and repair.
  2. Maintaining the facility clean (contract and supervise janitorial and cleaning services).
  3. Provide monthly report of the activity.
  4. Provide yearly report and budget for future facility maintenance.
  5. Develop once a year safety drill.
  6. Work with other committees to develop and train volunteers.
  7. Coordinates and performs all necessary repairs.
  8. Monitors all work performed by outside contractors (e.g. painters, cleaners, and HVAC maintenance companies) to ensure quality and completeness. Ensures work performed meets quality standards. Keeps supervisor informed of progress or discrepancies.
  9. Identifies unsafe conditions in work areas and takes appropriate action to ensure safety of self and others. Identifies potential safety hazards of problems in work areas. Takes appropriate measures for safety of self and others in work area. Communicates information concerning unsafe conditions to supervisor
